NHWhy do we continue using Industrial-Age teaching methods and an Agrarian-Age calendar to prepare students for an AI augmented world?
The world has changed. How we access information, communicate, and work has changed. Has our educational system kept pace?
The intersection of technology, teaching, and learning has always fascinated me. A summer job teaching programming in a computer camp at Southern Illinois Univeristy lead me to become a teacher. My first job after graduation was teaching fifth grade and computers on the Navajo reservation. After a number of years working on the reservation I had the opportunity to work on innovative projects such as Four Directions, Online Academy, and Learning Generation at the University of Kansas. Next, as Professor of Instructional Design and Technology at California State University, San Bernardino, I focused on connecting educational theory and real-world practice. Today, as Executive Director of the Center for Innovation at Jackson College, I lead initiatives in faculty development, the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), and the appropriate and effective use of AI.
I welcome opportunities to collaborate with colleges and organizations on related initiatives, research, and projects, focused on innovation in teaching and learning.
